It's beautifully chugging along to creepy, unsettling ending with some occasional bursts of energy. They are quite lengthy but I wasn't bothered by that as it created room for some experimentation that mostly paid off. The choirs and harsh vocals create a nice contrast, as well as the distorted guitars and the symphonic elements - it's a nice touch. It more than makes up for it with the incredible atmosphere. Still the mixing is not atrocious and doesn't distract too much, so for me it wasn't an issue. Mixing is not the strongest point of the album, but that's probably because it's very much a black metal album at heart. The intro grabs your attention and sets the direction of the album and the outro just makes you want to listen to more rain and some church atmospheric sounds. It always makes the albums more complete, and the choirs are very beautifully done in both tracks. I'm actually glad that the album had an intro and an outro btw.

Now the Gothic motiefs were immediately apparent in the intro with the strong ecclesiastical atmosphere. I listened to Window's Weeds by Tristania, which was submitted by u/Ennattinord2008. TL DR: I listen to a new genre every day, so recommend me one album and I'll listen to the most upvoted one and write my thoughts about it later. Thanks to anyone who recommends an album. If you want to see what the previous days were, check out my post history. I am a metal head but I don't know too much about this genre, so I'm essentially going in blind. LPs are preferred, but EPs and mixtapes are also acceptable, even compilations and live albums if they're not too long. If you submit more than one in your comment, it won't count (If you really want to submit more, do it in separate comments). It could be the best one in your opinion, your personal favourite, or the album that best represents this genre according to you, but please, only submit one album. So please recommend me an album in the comments. I'm planning to listen to one album per day and this time the genre is Gothic Metal. The list I'm following is Wikipedia's list of the most popular music genres in a randomized order. I don't know anything about music theory so it's just gonna be the thoughts of a random guy). After this, I listen to the album that got the most upvotes after 24 hours and write my thoughts about it (I will write this as a comment under this one, so if you want to read it, make sure to check back in 2-3 days. I'm doing a little project where I go to different subreddits of music genres and I ask the members what the best album of that genre is. I hope this kind of post is allowed here.

At its best, Gothic Metal combines the aggression and ponderous feeling of Doom Metal with the melodramatic imagery and musical style of Gothic Rock.Īll content is welcome as long as it's related to gothic metal, but any music that's not explicitly gothic metal must be specified in the title. With Doom Metal at its roots, Gothic Metal is defined by dark, depressed, passionate, and romantic themes, often incorporating Romantic Era musical elements.
